About The Position

This role is for a highly skilled individual to work on the Android platform (AOSP), focusing on platform services, HALs, policy, and the build system. The position involves investigating and resolving complex system-level failures that are not app-related, such as stalled system services, unexpected HAL responses, or policy denials. The successful candidate will analyze device-produced files, propose fixes, improve the platform's Android reasoning, validate its answers, and participate in customer calls as a platform expert. The role requires deep understanding of the Android platform below the SDK and is not an app development role. Experience with cellular modems or the Linux kernel is highly desirable, as it can reduce the need for multiple specialists.

Requirements

• Shipped a system service, daemon or privileged component on a production AOSP-based build that other people's devices ran.
• Owned SELinux policy, init configuration or platform signing.
• Carried a device or vendor tree through a major Android version upgrade.
• Root-caused a platform failure (system_server, binder, a HAL, an ANR storm) from a bugreport and fixed it in platform code.
• Takes devices apart for fun, roots own phones, builds and flashes own kernels, and has dev boards.
• Can clearly walk a customer's engineers through a root cause in English and hold ground when evidence supports their position.
• Proficient in day-to-day work with CLI-based AI coding tools like Claude Code (or an equivalent).

Nice To Haves

• Cellular modem work at the RIL and radio HAL boundary.
• Linux kernel and driver work, including reading kernel crash dumps.
• Treble, GKI and vendor interface work.
• OEM or ODM experience shipping devices.
• On-device agents for fleets or device management.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside a founder on Android platform investigations and remediations.
• Take over platform investigations when founders are occupied.
• Join customer calls as the Android platform expert, explaining failures, causes, and solutions.
• Validate the platform's Android analysis against actual device behavior and identify discrepancies.
• Encode platform reasoning (system services, binder, HALs, init, SELinux, vendor/system split) for autonomous platform operation.
