Monitors and operates furnaces that melt gray and ductile iron used in the casting process. Requirements

Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must have specific vision abilities required by this job including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to successfully pass the respirator testing protocol and wear a respirator as needed.

Responsibilities

Operates and maintains coreless induction furnace melting iron.
Operates industrial crane to hoist equipment onto deck and furnace.
Operates forklift, as needed, to transport supplies and equipment.
Skims slag from surface of molten metal using a slag rake.
Transfers molten metal from furnace to transfer ladle.
Removes samples of iron utilizing a ceramic fiber cub for metallurgical analysis.
Cleans furnaces and equipment, and repairs refractory lining utilizing air hammers and pneumatic rammers.
Knock out and clean all ladles using air hammers and chisels.
Adds material to alloy bins using forklift and hoist.
