About The Position

This role involves melting magnesium and aluminum metals to meet specific alloy specifications. The Melt Furnace Tender will add alloys and hardeners according to work instructions, adhering to time and temperature restraints set by Engineering. A key responsibility is pouring hot metal into molds to produce castings that meet precise metal temperature requirements and customer specifications. The position also requires maintaining the cleanliness of alloy tools and furnace areas, segregating dross, and working collaboratively within a team to ensure smooth melt pouring processes. The individual must be able to understand and read temperature gauges and identify different molds to ensure correct alloys and metals are poured.

Requirements

  • Good vision, hearing, and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to follow written work instructions
  • Ability to multitask and meet production goals and deadlines
  • Team-oriented with good communication skills
  • Great attention to detail
  • Ability to lift 50lbs on a regular basis
  • Ability to grip, push, and pull with 80lb strength on a regular basis
  • Ability to generate 15lbs of pinch strength on occasion
  • Pass a pre-employment physical
  • Ability to perform elevated work on an occasional basis
  • Ability to stand on concrete up to 8 hours
  • Willingness to cross-train within the classification
  • Ability to follow all safety rules and wear all required personal protective equipment
  • Ability to work in high heat temperatures all year around
  • Ability to maintain a clean workstation and clean equipment
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma or equivalency preferred
  • Previous manufacturing or foundry experience preferred
  • National Career Readiness Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Melt magnesium and aluminum metals to meet alloy specifications
  • Add alloys and hardeners per work instructions
  • Follow time and temperature restraints set forth by Engineering
  • Pour hot metal into molds as assigned to produce castings to meet the metal temperature requirements and the customers’ specifications
  • Keep the alloy tools and the furnace areas clean and dross segregated
  • Work in a team to ensure the melt pouring processes goes smoothly
  • Understand and read temperature gauges and identify different molds to know which alloys and metals will be poured into each mold
