About The Position

The Melt Crew is responsible for safely handling molten metal at extremely high temperatures, supporting daily furnace operations, and maintaining related equipment such as ladles and refractory linings. This includes preparing and pouring metal, performing routine repairs, and ensuring all work is conducted with a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed instructions.
  • Ability to discern imperfections and understand the quality of repairs of iron holders/ladles.
  • Ability to understand basic addition to tally units per training.
  • Ability to learn job duties and locations from verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Safely handling molten metal at extremely high temperatures.
  • Supporting daily furnace operations.
  • Maintaining related equipment such as ladles and refractory linings.
  • Preparing and pouring metal.
  • Performing routine repairs.
  • Ensuring all work is conducted with a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and attention to detail.
  • Interacting with liquid metal at temperatures exceeding 2800 degrees.
  • Maintaining holders/ladles and performing repairs on the furnace, including daily patches, repairs, and relining the refractory.
  • Preparing pouring ladles for daily use.
  • Pouring metal into ladles.
  • Taking direction from a supervisor.
  • Understanding temperatures and molten iron safety.
  • Assisting with the cleaning/maintaining of furnaces and ladles.
  • Performing all duties in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Obtaining a tow motor license.
  • Successfully passing LOTO and confined space training.
  • Being available for weekend and overtime assignments as required.
