About The Position

This role is for a CEI/MEI Senior Roadway Inspector in the Tampa area. The inspector will be responsible for documenting all site activities, overseeing contractor compliance, reviewing construction documents, taking measurements for payments, assisting with contract submissions and staff scheduling, attending progress meetings, supervising junior inspectors, and performing inspections and testing of materials for road and bridge projects. The role also involves observing safety practices and monitoring work zone traffic control.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Senior Inspector on Florida Department of Transportation projects in the Tampa, FL area.
  • High school graduate or equivalent plus two (5) years’ experience in construction inspection, one (2) year of which shall have been in bridge and/or roadway construction inspection, or an Engineer Intern with a Civil Engineering degree (requires certificate) having the ability to earn the required qualifications and certifications within one year, plus demonstrated knowledge in the following:
  • CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level I
  • CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I
  • CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I
  • CTQP Pile Driving Inspection
  • CTQP Drilled Shaft Inspection (required for inspection of all drilled shafts including miscellaneous structures such as sign structures, lighting structures, and traffic signal structures)
  • IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector Level I
  • CTQP Final Estimates Level I
  • Contract Administration (required for managing FDOT contracts)
  • Contract Inspection
  • Permit Inspection
  • Roadway Characteristics Inventory
  • Maintenance Management System

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with FDOT construction and specifications desired.
  • The ability to work as a team a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Document all activities on site during duration of the contract and prepare inspection reports.
  • Oversee, document, review, and assess contractor’s compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Review construction documents and drawings to minimize issues and to reduce the potential for extra work orders during construction.
  • Take accurate and detailed measurements of all work performed by the contractor to ensure accurate payments.
  • Assist the Project Administrator with the review of contract submissions (critical path schedules, RFI’s etc.).
  • Assist the project Administrator with staff scheduling/coordination.
  • Attend progress meeting and provide feedback on ongoing construction and issues.
  • Supervision of Junior inspector.
  • Inspection and testing of soils, concrete, steel and masonry materials for road and bridge projects.
  • Reading and interpreting drawings and specifications.
  • Observing general job safety practices.
  • Monitoring and inspecting the Work Zone Traffic Control in accordance with contract documents.
