The Permits Investigator position is responsible for the gathering of pertinent information necessary for recommending and processing of permit applications to do work within the State of Indiana right of way. This position also requires job site inspections during and after construction to ensure compliance of all applicable laws, policies and design standards. Investigator conducts annual outdoor advertising sign inventory and investigates all encroachment violations. This position reports directly to the Permits Manager.

Requirements

• Must possess a valid driver license.
• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain one with the first 90 days of employment.
• Required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods of time.
• Must be able to endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Must have ability to read, write, and communicate clearly.
• Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
• The ability to read, interpret and follow technical documents such as AASHTO, ASTM, INDOT specifications, and Indiana Test Methods (ITM).
• Basic knowledge of and the ability to operate and maintain material testing equipment.
• Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Gather pertinent information necessary for recommending and processing of permit applications to do work within the State of Indiana right of way.
• Conduct job site inspections during and after construction to ensure compliance of all applicable laws, policies and design standards.
• Conduct annual outdoor advertising sign inventory.
• Investigate all encroachment violations.
• Calibrate, operate, and evaluate data from multiple specialized test systems at Materials and Tests.
• Obtain CDL license to assist in District snow removal operations.
• Follow all related safety standards and conduct/participate in safety briefings.
• Perform research, preliminary data analysis and collect quality data on multiple specialized testing systems.
• Perform and maintain calibration of test systems to prescribed federal and state specifications.
• Perform maintenance, repair and system upgrades to laboratory test systems.
• Assist Laboratory Manager in conducting multiple laboratory tests and data analysis.
• Assist with Facilities and B&G repair and maintenance.
