About The Position

This position involves providing direct patient care on a Medical-Surgical unit, focusing on patients of all age groups. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of medications, patient assessments, care planning, and patient/family education. Responsibilities include managing various patient conditions, collaborating with healthcare professionals, and ensuring documentation meets current standards. The nurse will also be responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance and adhering to hospital policies.

Requirements

  • Completes annual educational requirements within the assigned time frame.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and Joint Commission regulations related to their department and, as appropriate, to the hospital.
  • Current state of Florida Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • BCLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  • Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
  • Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes: pediatric, geriatric and the general population.
  • Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning. Family is included in teaching as appropriate.
  • Assesses and reassesses pain management techniques utilized. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services to level licensure.
  • Provides care to patients with compromised nutritional/metabolic status.
  • Provides care to patients requiring extensive fluid and electrolyte management.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to Nurse Manager, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
  • Provides care appropriate to disease condition and age of the patient including pediatric, geriatric and general population.
  • Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensure patient confidentiality.
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.
  • Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family; communicates with social service and discharge planner regarding both in the hospital and post discharge.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
  • Employee performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s/department’s Ethics and compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor or upward through chain of command, the Compliance Officer, or hospital outline.
  • Employee adheres to and practices the standards of performance outlines in the Standards of Performance handbook.
