About The Position

Under general supervision, this position operates one or more pieces of equipment and vehicles such as front end loaders, backhoes, commercial mowers, water tanker trucks, and dump trucks. The role involves cleaning canals, clearing storm drains, and preparing right-of-ways for roads and canals. Responsibilities include grading dirt streets, preparing them for paving, and repairing road shoulders. The operator also drives dump trucks for material transport, services vehicles with fluids, and performs manual litter pickup. This position requires the ability to work some unusual or irregular hours and may involve exposure to hazards and extreme outdoor conditions.

Requirements

• Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent; however, will be afforded an opportunity to acquire within nine (9) months if the applicant does not possess one at the time of employment.
• Possess sufficient experience involving approximately 1 to 2 years employment in related field and/or can be supplemented by some special schooling in the field.
• Must have sufficient knowledge of the subject to perform effectively, with little supervision, in work situations which are varied or which have deviations and irregularities.
• Must have sufficient knowledge in a field to perform most normal work as assigned with little direction supervision.
• Must also possess a valid Texas Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record is required.

Responsibilities

• Operates one or more of the following pieces of equipment and vehicles: front end loader, backhoe, commercial mower, water tanker truck and dump truck.
• Cleans canals, clean out storm drains; clears right-of-way for roads and canals.
• Grades dirt streets, prepares dirt streets for paving, repairs road shoulders.
• Drives dump trucks in picking up and delivering materials, debris and supplies.
• Services vehicles with oil, gas, water, and grease; notifies mechanic of any repairs needed.
• Picks up litter manually and with heavy equipment.
• Performs related duties as required.
