Equipment Operator Medium - Streets
About The Position
Under immediate supervision, performs responsible semi-skilled work in the operation of motorized equipment; does related work as required. Essential Functions include operating a front-end loader, backhoe, trencher, tamp, and related equipment in the maintenance and construction of storm water systems. The role also involves operating heavy storm drain cleaning equipment, multi-purpose equipment in laying storm drains, and some heavy sweepers for road and street cleaning. Responsibilities include servicing and making minor repairs to equipment, operating a dump truck for sanding, plowing icy streets and roads, and snow removal. As a trainee, the operator will operate heavy equipment. When not operating equipment, performs semi-skilled work on the job site and cleans and cares for tools and equipment.
Requirements
- Completion of the eleventh grade and considerable experience in the operation of motorized equipment
- Ability to operate large Jet Truck
- Ability to oversee crew in absence of Crew Leader
- General knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and servicing trucks and related medium construction equipment
- General knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation
- General knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment
- Skill and care in the operation of several types of trucks and construction equipment
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
- Mechanical aptitude
- Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment
- Knowledge of Stormwater systems with ability to trouble shoot problems and advise the type of repair needed
- Able to work 12 hour shifts 7 days a week during ice and snow removal
- Possession of a North Carolina CDL Class A
- Possession of a Tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 3 months
