About The Position

The Health Information Analyst (Medical-Legal Tech) is primarily responsible for performing the medical-legal functions efficiently and accurately. The analyst is responsible for (but is not limited to) processing requests for medical information from physician offices, healthcare facilities, attorneys, insurance companies, patients and/or their representatives. The Medical-Legal Tech assures that guidelines of HIPAA are followed to reduce the hospital’s potential liability in releasing records or protected health information. He or she must have the ability to deal effectively with the public, medical staff, and other hospital personnel at all times.

Requirements

  • High School completion / GED
  • Medical Terminology or completion of medical terminology course within 3 months of hire.
  • 1 - 3 years of job-related experience
  • Medical-Legal experience in a Health Information Management department or related experience, i.e. healthcare billing, physician office.
  • Associate degree, HIM, in lieu of medical-legal experience.
  • Excellent telephone techniques.
  • Ability to communicate well, both verbally and written.
  • Data entry skills and familiarity with the use of a keyboard.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree preferred
  • RHIT certification preferred
  • Notary of the Public preferred. If not currently, employee must obtain commission within 4 months of hire.
