About The Position

Under general supervision, this role preps, scans, and validates all types of paper documents into an optical scanning system to obtain chart completion. The technician scans and validates all loose reports sent to the department. This position is responsible for analyzing medical records for deficiencies in chart documentation and for the release of information for continuity of care requests. The role ensures that HIPAA guidelines are followed to reduce the hospital’s potential liability in releasing records or protected health information. The Chart Completion Tech is responsible for monitoring incomplete charts and following up with physicians, as well as adhering to guidelines from The Joint Commission (JC) and Conditions of Participation, and all federal and state regulations. The position also includes performing other duties as assigned and needed.

Requirements

  • High School completion / GED
  • Medical Terminology (completion of a course or enrollment in a class)
  • 1 - 3 years of job-related experience
  • Prior job title or occupational experience: Medical Office
  • Ability to read and write in order to review and maintain patient medical record charts, and perform basic mathematic calculations as well as ability to operate standard office equipment as a level normally acquired through completion of high school.
  • Must be able to work independently in a medical office setting.
  • Problem-solving abilities and basic analytical skills necessary.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to type accurately at acceptable levels of speed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills required to effectively communicate, understand, interact, and respond to patients, physicians, and other personnel when obtaining and supplying routine factual medical record information via telephone or direct personal contacts on a daily basis.
  • Basic analytical skills necessary in order to determine work priorities, assist in problem resolution and recommend methods of improving workflow.
