The Medication Technician provides medication services and direct resident care, assisting in maintaining a positive physical and psychosocial environment for residents. The Medication Technician assists residents with activities of daily living, housekeeping, laundry, and other daily chores. This role is responsible for the daily operation of the medication room and medication services as directed by the Health Services Director (HSD) and in accordance with physician orders, state regulations, and the nurse practice act. They process physician medication and treatment orders, administer and assist with the self-administration of routine and non-routine medications, and complete simple treatments while monitoring residents. Accurate record-keeping of medication and treatment services, coordination with pharmacies, reporting medication errors, and communicating changes in resident condition are key aspects of this position. The technician also provides direct resident care, promotes resident dignity and independence, and assists with activities of daily living as directed by the resident’s cooperative service plan. They maintain a safe and secure working environment, follow community fire safety and infection control practices, and serve meals, assisting residents at mealtimes. The role involves lifting, moving, and transporting residents using proper body mechanics or assistive devices, assisting with tours, move-ins, move-outs, and transfers, and responding promptly to assistance pages. First Aid and emergency response procedures are initiated as needed, and medications and equipment are properly stored and maintained. Outdated or discontinued medications are removed according to policy. The Medication Technician also attends and participates in training, in-services, and staff meetings, and performs other duties as assigned.
