The Medication Technician provides medication services and direct resident care, assisting in maintaining a positive physical and psychosocial environment for residents. The Medication Technician assists residents with activities of daily living, housekeeping, laundry, and other daily chores. This role is responsible for the daily operation of the medication room and medication services as directed by the Health Services Director (HSD) and in accordance with physician orders, state regulations and the nurse practice act. This includes processing physician medication and treatment orders, administering and assisting with self-administration of medications, completing simple treatments, and monitoring residents. Accurate record-keeping of medication and treatment services, including controlled substances, is essential. The role also involves coordination with pharmacies, reporting medication errors, and communicating changes in resident condition to the HSD, physicians, and family members. The Medication Technician provides direct resident care while promoting dignity, independence, and choice, and assists with or provides care services as directed by the resident’s cooperative service plan. They also serve meals, assist with dining room and kitchen cleanup, and help with lifting, moving, and transporting residents using proper body mechanics or assistive devices. Additionally, the role involves assisting with tours, move-ins, move-outs, and transfers, responding to assistance pages promptly, performing First Aid, and initiating emergency response procedures. Proper storage of medications and equipment, maintaining a clean medication room, and removing outdated or discontinued medications are also key responsibilities. The Medication Technician is expected to attend and participate in training, in-services, and staff meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.
