About The Position

The Medication Technician is a full-time position responsible for administering medications to residents safely, accurately, and in a timely manner. This role operates under the general direction of the Executive Director and Wellness Director, ensuring all residents receive necessary care and services while maintaining a professional and compassionate environment.

Requirements

  • Wash residents' laundry.
  • Escort residents and coordinate transportation.
  • Assist residents with personal correspondence/telephone.
  • Observe and report changes in resident condition.
  • Conduct room checks and resident rounds.
  • Monitor for environmental safety hazards.
  • Assist with dining tasks.
  • Assist residents with eating.
  • Respond to emergencies.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-services.
  • Document services provided.
  • Use diplomatic communication.
  • Follow up on complaints and concerns.
  • Act as a public relations representative.
  • Communicate with physicians and specialists.
  • Copy special paperwork.
  • Demonstrate appreciation for residents' heritage and understanding of aging.
  • Collaborate with other departments.
  • Participate in assigned projects or committees.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Administers medications according to the physician order on the medication administration record (MAR).
  • Documents medications administered on the MAR in accordance with company policy, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Conducts change of shift report with oncoming/outgoing shift personnel.
  • Maintains security of medication cart and narcotic keys, and conducts narcotic counts at the beginning and end of every shift.
  • Provides all necessary care and services to assigned residents and assists other caregivers as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with peers and other team members.
  • Provides assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, toileting, eating, and ambulation/mobility.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor when interacting with residents and families.
  • Reports any suspected or witnessed instances of abuse to licensed staff immediately.
  • Utilizes safe transfer techniques when assisting residents with mobility.
  • Participates in and supports the resident-centered activities program.
  • Cares for sensory enhancement devices such as eyeglasses and hearing aids.
  • Completes housekeeping tasks such as bed-making, linen changes, vacuuming, emptying trash, and cleaning bathrooms.
  • Washes residents’ laundry as needed.
  • Escorts residents and coordinates internal transportation needs.
  • Assists residents with personal correspondence/telephone usage when requested.
  • Observes and reports changes in residents’ physical condition and cognitive/emotional status to the Wellness Director or charge nurse.
  • Conducts room checks and resident rounds.
  • Monitors for environmental safety hazards.
  • Assists in dining tasks, including escorting residents, setting up, serving meals, and cleaning tables.
  • Assists residents without swallowing difficulty with eating.
  • Responds to emergencies promptly and calmly, reporting them to the charge nurse immediately.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and mandatory in-services.
  • Documents the provision of services on company forms.
  • Uses tactful, diplomatic communication techniques in potentially sensitive situations.
  • Follows up with appropriate staff, residents, or other individuals regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns.
  • Acts as an ambassador and public relations representative to guests and visitors.
  • Communicates with physicians and third-party specialists.
  • Copies special paperwork or forms.
  • Demonstrates an appreciation of residents' heritage, values, and wisdom, and an understanding of the aging process.
  • Collaborates with associates in other departments to ensure necessary care and services are provided.
  • Participates in projects or committees as assigned.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
