About The Position

The Medication Technician assists Solheim Senior Community (“Solheim”) in providing safe and effective medication administration and supportive care services to residents. The Med Tech administers medications and treatments according to physician orders, resident care plans, and Solheim policies and procedures under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. The Med Tech works collaboratively with the healthcare team and other departments to ensure quality care, resident safety, and the highest degree of resident and family satisfaction in support of the Mission and Vision of Solheim.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
Medication Technician certification (or completion of approved medication administration training program) required.
Desire and ability to work with ill, aged, and disabled persons.
Willingness and ability to read, write, speak, understand English and have the communications skills necessary to provide accurate information to residents and staff.
Willingness and ability to follow written and verbal direction in English.
Willingness and ability to maintain appropriate level of confidentiality and privacy.

Responsibilities

Administer medications to residents according to physician orders and medication administration records (MAR) following community policies and procedures.
Verify resident identity prior to medication administration to ensure safety and accuracy.
Document medication administration promptly and accurately using the “Pour-Pass-Chart” method or electronic medication administration system.
Observe residents for medication side effects or adverse reactions and report concerns to licensed nursing staff immediately.
Ensure medications are properly labeled, stored, and dated according to policy and manufacturer guidelines.
Maintain organization and cleanliness of the medication cart and medication room.
Follow infection control practices including proper hand hygiene and use of personal protective equipment.
Assist with ordering, receiving, and refilling medications as directed by licensed nursing staff.
Monitor medication supplies and notify appropriate staff when refills are needed.
Follow proper procedures for handling and documenting controlled substances as directed by licensed nursing staff.
Maintain medication safety and security at all times.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the medical record, including medication administration and resident observations.
Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, pharmacy providers, and other healthcare professionals as directed.
Report medication errors, incidents, or changes in resident condition according to policy.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
