About The Position

The primary role of the Medication Tech is to administer medications and provide direct care to residents. This includes passing medications accurately and timely according to physician orders and facility policy, recording administration in resident records, and notifying the pharmacy or family for refills. The Medication Tech is responsible for maintaining a clean medication area, monitoring and reporting medication side effects to the Director of Health Services, and providing shift reports. They will also follow comprehensive care plans, assist with medical appointments, communicate with healthcare providers, advocate for residents' needs, observe residents for health changes, document status changes and communications in the electronic medical record, and complete accident/incident reports. Additionally, they perform delegated nursing services as assigned by the RN, participate in in-service education, promptly report changes in resident conditions, follow directions, ensure resident safety, and work cooperatively with various stakeholders. They also assist new employees and maintain confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Caregiver and Medication Tech in a Memory Care Unit and or Assisted Living Facility.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active CPR/First Aid Certification during employment.
  • Ability to obtain Food Handler’s Card.
  • Experience in electronic medical records documentation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Pass medications according to physician orders and in accordance with facility policy.
  • Administer medications accurately and timely.
  • Record medications administered in the resident’s record.
  • Notify the pharmacy (or family when applicable) when medications need to be refilled.
  • Maintain a clean and organized medication cart and medication room.
  • Monitor and report any/all side effects of medications to the Director of Health Services.
  • Obtain/provide shift report.
  • Record sufficient information related to medication administration to implement accurate changes to medication orders.
  • Follow comprehensive care plans related to medication administration based on each resident’s needs and their comprehensive assessment as assigned.
  • Assisting with medical appointments, communicating with healthcare providers, and advocating for the residents’ needs.
  • Observing residents for changes in health, reporting concerns to medical professionals, and monitoring vital signs.
  • Document information pertaining to changes in residents’ status, personal needs, and communications with outside providers in the electronic medical record.
  • Complete accident and incident reports in a timely manner and according to facility policy.
  • Perform delegated nursing services as assigned by the RN.
  • Participate in in-service education programs as assigned.
  • Promptly report changes in resident conditions to the Director of Health Services.
  • Follow written and oral directions.
  • Perform all duties assigned in an effective, cooperative, timely and professional manner.
  • Be responsible for the safety of residents under their supervision.
  • Work cooperatively with residents, nursing staff, physicians, families, consultant personnel, community agencies, and ancillary service providers.
  • Assist new employees in following established facility policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident and facility information.
