About The Position

The Medication History Technician (MHT) is responsible for accurately obtaining, documenting, and verifying a patient’s medication history upon admission, transfer, or discharge. The MHT works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure medication accuracy and reduce adverse drug events. Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician by the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Must possess a valid Pharmacy Technician Registration from the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy.
  • Must possess or complete ASHP Medication History-Taking Certification within 90 days of hire/assignment.
  • Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
  • Proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
  • Keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities.
  • Superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations.
  • Ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
  • Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a pharmacy technician training program preferred.
  • Experience as a Pharmacy Technician preferred.
