About The Position

This role is responsible for administering, procuring, monitoring, and evaluating resident medications. The Medication Distributer also monitors resident medical conditions, acts as a consultant on health-related issues under the direction of the Registered Nurse, and coordinates infection control procedures. Key responsibilities include documenting medical treatment, supporting residential instructors, intervening in crisis situations, enforcing safety guidelines, and providing direct care as needed. The position also involves participating in the development and implementation of resident treatment plans, leading team meetings, preparing residents for external medical appointments, and maintaining the cleanliness of medication rooms. Successful completion of required trainings and participation in staff orientation are also essential.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in both written and verbal formats to meet position responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals having special physical, emotional, social and vocational needs.
  • Ability to articulate and actively support the mission of the corporation to various audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant Program or Certified Medical assistant, preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record according to Hope Network corporate policy, preferred.
  • At least one year of experience working in a residential setting, preferred.
  • At least one year of experience handling and administering medications, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, procure, monitor and evaluate resident medications.
  • Monitor chronic and emergency medical conditions and illnesses within the advisement of the Nursing Staff or affiliate physicians and report any changes.
  • Act as general consultant on medical and health related issues under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Coordinates and implements infection control procedures and other quality assurance procedures to protect residents, staff, and their associates.
  • Document medical treatment and health status in resident records for continuity of care and treatment team reference.
  • Provide support to residential instructors and engage in problem solving to enhance service delivery.
  • Assist in the direct supervision of residents or is aware of general whereabouts of residents (depending upon assessed level of independence) during non-medication distributing times.
  • Intervenes in crisis situations, using approved methods promoting the safety of all residents.
  • Enforces safety guidelines for residents. Follows general safety practices. Reports any unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Provides direct care and hands-on assistance in residents' activities of daily living and self-care tasks as needed to support the residential instructors.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of individual treatment plans and nursing plans for residents.
  • Communicate with supervisor and designated clinical staff regarding resident and program issues.
  • Lead daily informational team meetings to identify current needs and behaviors of the residents such as medication, eating, or hygiene refusals.
  • Ensure residents are prepared and ready to attend external medical appointments including completion of any necessary paperwork.
  • Welcome and engage with external entities onsite to ensure effective communication and resident participation with on-site lab draws and pharmacy deliveries.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the “med rooms” alongside the nursing team.
  • Conduct proper shift exchange including medication reconciliation.
  • Completes duties and assignments as outlined in the employee manual, shift responsibilities checklist, and/or as assigned.
  • Successfully completes all required trainings. Attends other training or in-services as assigned by supervisor.
  • Participates in the orientation and training of new staff members.
  • Completes documentation to ensure compliance with licensing, CARF, and Hope Network Behavioral Health Services requirements.
  • Participate in monthly team meetings or as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
