About The Position

This Medical Assistant position is a part-time role on the 2nd shift at River Valley I in Grand Rapids. The role involves a variety of essential functions related to client care, medication administration, medical condition monitoring, infection control, documentation, and staff support. The Medical Assistant will act as a consultant on medical issues under the direction of the Registered Nurse and will participate in the development and implementation of individual treatment programs and nursing care plans. Additional responsibilities may include medication reconciliation, working as a rehab technician, and coordinating care with external healthcare providers, depending on the specific program or facility.

Requirements

  • Graduated from a accredited Medical Assistant Program, Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Ability to interact with staff and residents of diverse populations required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in both written and verbal formats to meet position responsibilities.
  • Ability to perform non-physical and physical interventions with clients in accordance with CMH guidelines and Behavioral Management plans in order to protect the client, other clients and self. This requires the physical ability to appropriately restrain a client with or without assistance from co-workers.
  • Demonstrated Leadership Skills required.
  • Ability to articulate and actively support the mission of the corporation to various audiences.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record according to Hope Network corporate policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
  • At least one year of experience working in a residential setting, preferred.
  • At least one year of experience handling and administrating medications, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, procure, monitor and evaluate client medications.
  • Monitor and treat chronic and emergency medical conditions and illnesses within the advisement of the Nursing Staff or affiliate physicians.
  • Act as general consultant on medical and health related issues under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Coordinate and implement infection control procedures and other quality assurance procedures to protect residents, staff, and their associates.
  • Document medical treatment and health status in individual records for continuity of care and treatment team reference.
  • Document physical assessments and nurse’s notes as established by nursing program guidelines.
  • Provide leadership, support, and direction to staff to facilitate communication, problem solving, and program development as related to nursing issues.
  • Assist in the direct supervision of residents or is aware of general whereabouts of residents (depending upon assessed level of independence).
  • Participate in the development and implementation of individual treatment programs and nursing care plans for residents.
  • Implement goals of clinical team for each resident, using approved program methods and instructors.
  • Participate in team meetings as assigned.
  • Provide observational data information for evaluation and treatment planning purposes.
  • Communicate with supervisor and designated clinical staff regarding resident and program issues.
  • Assist in quarterly care plan evaluations, AIMS testing, monthly assessments, and weekly nurse’s notes on residents of assigned team.
  • Supervise and/or provide hands-on assistance in residents' activities of daily living and self-care tasks as directed by supervisor.
  • Complete daily medication reconciliation (if required).
  • Work as a rehab technician within the program (if required).
  • Coordinate care as assigned by the program RN including but not limited to pharmacies, emergency departments, primary care physicians, inpatient hospitals, etc. (if working at a transitional rehab facility).
