About The Position

A Medication Assistant Treatment Nurse, also known as a “Dosing Nurse,” provides nursing care to patients with an addiction. This role monitors and adjusts medication within limits approved by the prescriber, administers medication in accordance with Federal OMT Guidelines, assesses for intoxication, and acts as a liaison between client, staff, and other care providers as needed. The nurse also provides information, education, and support to clients.

Requirements

  • Completion of accredited Registered Nursing program
  • Entry level position

Responsibilities

  • Administers medications to patients, monitors the dosage, side effects, and documents the reaction. This includes Methadone and other medication as ordered by the prescriber.
  • Provides medication training to the patient, patient’s family, or guardian to administer the patient’s medication, to monitor proper levels of dosage and watch for side effects.
  • Obtains laboratory specimens and helps prescriber with patient examination and continuity of care arrangements with other providers.
  • Conduct intake for recipient entering services, including explaining services, gathering information needed on intake materials and document assessments, assuring signature on appropriate consents, and submitting materials for processing, as assigned.
  • Assist service recipients with making linkages with internal and external resources as outlined in treatment plan and in coordination with Integrated Healthcare Team.
  • Maintain appropriate contact with referral sources including providing information on service recipient progress, behavior, and needs (with appropriate release), and maintaining ongoing consultation when appropriate.
  • Participate on committees and in staff meetings, clinical staffings, and other internal meetings as assigned.
