About The Position

The Medication Aide (MedAide) is responsible for safely administering medications and treatments to residents as ordered by authorized providers, in compliance with the North Carolina Board of Nursing regulations, facility policies, and established standards of care. This role ensures accuracy in medication administration, timely documentation, and prompt reporting of resident condition changes, while supporting resident dignity, safety, and well-being.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Valid North Carolina Nurse Aide I registry listing.
Active on the Medication Aide Registry operated by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation.
Current CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).

Nice To Haves

One year of relevant experience working in long-term care or assisted living, preferred.

Responsibilities

Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and facility protocols, following the six rights of medication administration (right resident, medication, dose, route, time, and documentation).
Take and record vital signs, observe residents’ conditions, and report changes, medication errors, or concerns promptly to the nursing supervisor.
Maintain security, cleanliness, and organization of medication carts and storage areas, immediately reporting discrepancies in medication counts.
Accurately document all medications and treatments at the time of administration, maintaining up-to-date medication administration records.
Refer resident questions regarding medications to the nurse, physician, or pharmacist as appropriate.
Assist residents with feeding, mobility, and activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed.
Follow infection control, safety, and universal precaution protocols to protect residents, staff, and facility property.
Uphold resident rights, confidentiality, and professional standards of care at all times.
Use safe body mechanics and assistive devices when lifting, transferring, or supporting residents.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with residents, families, staff, and other healthcare providers.
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and care planning as assigned.
Comply with all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws, including HIPAA and the Code of Conduct, completing required training and reporting concerns promptly.
This position is designated as essential to the operations of the organization. Team members in this role may be required to report into work (on-site at the community) during emergencies, inclement weather, or other situations when the organization remains operational.
