Medication Access Coordinator

About The Position

Responsible for facilitating patient access to medications through manufacturer patient assistance programs, medication affordability resources, and organization-wide drug sample management. Coordinates enrollment, renewals, medication access, inventory oversight, compliance, and distribution activities to improve patient outcomes and reduce barriers to care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required
  • Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree preferred
  • Pharmacy Technician certification preferred
  • Two years of experience in healthcare, pharmacy, benefits coordination, patient access, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Screen and enroll eligible patients in Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs).
  • Assist with applications, supporting documents, renewals, and follow-up activities.
  • Educate patients regarding medication access options and eligibility requirements.
  • Coordinate with providers, pharmacies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and support programs.
  • Monitor application approvals, denials, and medication delivery status.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure HIPAA compliance.
  • Track program outcomes, medication cost savings, and enrollment metrics.
  • Prepare reports and support audits and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee the organizational drug sample program.
  • Receive, track, store, and audit medication samples.
  • Monitor inventory levels, expirations, recalls, and replenishment needs.
  • Maintain sample accountability and chain-of-custody records.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for sample management.
  • Coordinate distribution of approved medication samples to patients throughout the organization.
  • Verify patient eligibility and provider authorization.
  • Document all distributions in required tracking systems and patient records.
  • Collaborate with providers, nursing staff, and pharmacy personnel to ensure appropriate use.
  • Assist patients transitioning from samples to long-term coverage or assistance programs.
  • Maintain compliance with agency policies, program requirements, payer expectations, and applicable regulatory standards; monitor and respond to agency communications and email within expected timeframes; and demonstrate professionalism, accountability, teamwork, respectful communication, and alignment with Alliance Healthcare Services’ values and commitment to high-quality client care.
  • Complete all required trainings, meetings, documentation, and compliance requirements within established timeframes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
