About The Position

Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis. The Medical Transport Team Leader provides leadership and support to the medical transport team under the direction of the supervisor.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 2 years as a dispatcher for the department.
• Indiana Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Ambulance desired but not required.
• Current Indiana Driver’s license with motor vehicle record that meets Eskenazi Health’s driving policy standards
• Current Indiana motor vehicle insurance
• AHA CPR Certification
• EVOC certification with 6 months of hire
• specific knowledge of: practical skills, theory and medical terminology related to basic and some advanced emergency medical care
• specific knowledge of: principles of human growth and development
• specific knowledge of: age-appropriate care (i.e. neo-natal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric)
• Must be able to work effectively under emergency conditions and stress
• Must be able to drive an emergency vehicle under emergency conditions
• Must be able to coordinate emergency care with paramedics
• Must be able to proficiently use and maintain basic and some advanced life support equipment and supplies
• Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs individually and 175 lbs with a partner
• Must be able to carry a stair chair 30 yards, up two flights of stairs, then down two flights of stairs with a patient attached
• Must be able to carry tech box, oxygen equip. bag and ECG monitor up two flights of stairs
• Must be able to kneel, stoop and crouch for extended periods of time, including kneeling long enough to perform two hundred chest compressions in 2 minutes
• Must be able to interact in a calm, effective and courteous manner with patients, public, and hospital staff
• Must be able to follow detailed or general instructions, verbal and written legibly, accurately, and confidentially use and record data
• Must have normal use of limbs, eyes, ears and voice required to treat patients and to operate sophisticated electronic devices
• Must have excellent verbal communication skills
• Must have high level of medical psychomotor skills and cognitive knowledge
• Must have high degree of accuracy in performance of duties
• Must have satisfactory driving and previous work record
• Competent in Microsoft Office, Epic, and dispatch procedures
• Excellent judgment and ability to prioritized and handle multiple requests calmly and effectively
• Basic English reading and writing skills; bilingual is desired but not required
• Knowledge of hospital layout and procedures; some knowledge of equipment handling
• Ability to use age-appropriate communication skills
• Good reasoning ability
• Detail oriented
• Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures
• Promptness, empathy and genuine interest as perceived by patients, co-workers and staff
• Ability to assess patient needs during transport
• Skill in patient transport techniques and safe use of vehicle
• Must be able to follow written/verbal instructions

Responsibilities

• Performs dispatch for the Medical Transport Department
• Leads and supports the Medical Transport staff
• Assist with coordinating staff schedules
• Assists supervisor and manager with new hire orientation.
• Assists in conducting interviews and scheduling peer interviews for potential new hires
• Assists and coordinates with manager on hiring, probationary periods and performance reviews
• Oversees the cleaning and maintenance of equipment (i.e. wheelchairs and stretchers)
• Submits monthly reports as directed by the manager
• Trouble shoots the Epic system
• Performs all essential job functions of a transport aide and/or EMT when necessary
• Assists with the activities and educational/clinical experiences of assigned observers and students
• Participates actively in continuing education and medical audit programs
• Demonstrates excellent communication skills
• Report to the scene of automobile accidents when our department’s vehicles are involved
• Oversees wheelchair inventory and roundups
