About The Position

This is a fully onsite Medical Technologist role based at Thermo Fisher Scientific's Global Central Laboratory in Highland Heights, KY. The PPD® Laboratory Services team focuses on improving patient health through scientific expertise. Medical Technologists in the Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell (PBMC) group are responsible for analyzing and evaluating individual and related laboratory data, recognizing patterns or trends that suggest the significance of results, and determining their clinical relevance. They also assist in authoring and modifying Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The position requires legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship and passing a comprehensive background check, including drug screening. Relocation assistance is not provided.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification
Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 0 to 2 years’) or equivalent combination of education, training, & experience.
Excellent critical thinking skills
Good time management and organizational skills
Ability to multi-task
Good written and oral communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Able to retain knowledge in various laboratory units and train new employees
Know how to adapt to changes in workflow, unusual circumstances, high pressure and time sensitive environments

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Support the (PBMC) Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell group
Perform, review, and interpret complex, esoteric, and routine chemical, hematological, coagulation, renal, lipid, and hormonal analyses by manual, automated, and/or microscopic methods.
Integrate analytical results with specific and varied clinical trial protocols to evaluate the credibility, appropriateness, and accuracy of test results in order to facilitate the inclusion or exclusion of subjects from research programs.
Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair clinical laboratory equipment, including performing routine preventative maintenance, calibrations, and safety checks.
Recognize and resolve instrument problems, independently evaluating and taking appropriate action to ensure accurate patient data when major instrument issues occur.
Evaluate analytical reagents, calibrators, and QC standards to ensure the accuracy of analytical results.
Evaluate quality control procedures and results and implement corrective actions when indicated.
Perform ongoing statistical data analysis to detect trends or problems and undertake corrective action.
Conduct comparison studies for precision, accuracy, and linearity on new or existing assays or instruments.
Assist in the design and implementation of new procedures and in the modification of existing methods.
Provide instruction for new employees and students in the theory and practice of laboratory medicine and the interpretation of results.
