The Medical Technologist (MT/MLT) - Part Time - Second Shift position involves performing, evaluating, and monitoring laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols. This role includes selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated, monitoring workflow, and making adjustments to ensure timely completion of work. The technologist will evaluate results for clinical significance and validity, follow protocols for reporting and notification of test results, and perform instrument maintenance and calibration. Responsibilities also include recognizing and correcting instrument malfunctions, performing and documenting quality control and assurance, and ensuring specimen integrity. The role involves collecting specimens, providing technical assistance and training to other staff, and assisting in the development of training protocols. Additionally, the technologist will contribute to improving laboratory procedures and ensuring compliance with accrediting agency standards, including CAP Regulatory requirements. This position performs specialty testing in areas such as transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry, and supports institutional accreditations by meeting turn-around time goals. Direct support is provided to critical care departments during high acuity patient events, including transfusion services, attending codes, and performing specialized testing on irretrievable samples. The role requires demonstrating knowledge and skills for age-appropriate patient care, understanding growth and development across the lifespan, and assessing patient status based on age-specific needs.
