About The Position

This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus of $10,000. This downtown Stuart hospital provides top-quality patient care to the communities in and around Martin County on the beautiful St. Lucie River. The caregivers at Martin North Hospital have made it an excellent medical facility and a home away from home. As a Medical Technologist, you will perform and interpret tests at all complexity levels. Using your understanding of the theories and technical, procedural and problem-solving aspects of Laboratory Science, you will aid in the search to determine the best mode of care for patients. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to expand your knowledge through extensive hands-on experience with some of the best researchers and specialists. A caregiver in this position will work 2:00pm to 10:30pm or 3:00pm to 11:30pm, Monday through Friday, with rotating weekends.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Medical Technology or equivalent
  • Licensed in the State of Florida at the technologist levels
  • One or more specialties in Microbiology, Immunohematology or all licenses

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Medical Technology
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification
  • One year of clinical experience

Responsibilities

  • Conduct quality laboratory testing and result reporting.
  • Ensure that results are reported in compliance with the goals and standards of the department, hospital and applicable accrediting organizations (AHCA, CLIA, COLA, and JCAHO).
  • Accurately identify each patient specimen and testing orders and ensure results are accurate and reported in a timely manner.
  • Ensure specimen integrity and identification and resolve specimens not meeting testing criteria.
  • Identify and resolve pending specimen results from laboratory information system for assigned departments.
  • Report pertinent information to the physician, patient care area or supervisor (e.g., panic values, instrument malfunctions, delay in testing, reagent or supply depletion).
  • Note “dates opened” and “expiration dates” and use reagents and controls only to their expiration dates.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization and stock of work area.
  • Follow troubleshooting procedures to correct deficiencies or problems as they occur with instruments and equipment.
  • Ensure instrument operation and results are reliable and perform maintenance checks, startups, and shutdowns as assigned or required.
  • Answer the telephone, greet customers and provide consult and technical support to the physicians, phlebotomists and nursing staff.
  • Follow quality control policy and ensure controls are within acceptable limits before patient results are reported.
  • Document quality control and out of range results in an appropriate manner.
