About The Position

This is a full-time Medical Technologist position in the Hematology department at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston Campus. The role focuses on ensuring accurate and timely performance of patient procedures, reporting of results, and quality control/assurance. The position requires adherence to safety and identification procedures, continuous self-improvement through education, and contributing to the efficient operation of the department. The employee will also promote the professional image of the laboratories and adhere to hospital standards to foster a cooperative work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) Medical Technologist program.
  • Five years' clinical lab experience, or two years' clinical lab experience with Medical Lab Tech (MLT) certification.
  • Eligible for Medical Technologist certification (ASCP) or equivalent certification.
  • Ability to communicate on a professional level with physicians, nurses and other ancillary professional staff when discussing procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as Medical Technologist preferred.
  • Hematology experience is preferred but not required.
  • Will consider MLT or MT.

Responsibilities

  • Assure accurate and timely performance of patient procedures and/or issuance of blood products.
  • Assure accurate and timely performance of results reporting, QC and QA procedures according to departmental policy.
  • Follow proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens under any circumstance or environment to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne diseases.
  • Improve work skills through self-study and continuing education.
  • Contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
  • Exhibit and promote the professional image of laboratories.
  • Adhere to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
