About The Position

The Medical Technologist (MT) uses pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of the examination, including judgment, specimen acceptability, and clinical condition, to examine materials or specimens taken from the human body. This role provides information or materials for the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of disease or the assessment of a medical condition as required by a physician. The MT routinely performs clinical analyses in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, and urinalysis by initializing a variety of methodologies and instrumentation according to laboratory policies and procedures and in accordance with all regulatory agency requirements. The MT is responsible for collecting, receiving, and processing specimens, verifying correct labeling, evaluating specimens for appropriateness, and taking necessary corrective action. They prioritize specimen processing, aliquot specimens, and perform all aspects of analytical testing appropriate for the specific laboratory section. The MT is responsible for analyzing laboratory samples for technical review and interpretation, evaluating quality control, and performing maintenance on instrumentation and equipment. They prepare and maintain adequate stock of reagents, standards, and control materials, and notify the supervisor of any shortages or problems. The MT recognizes test system performance problems, takes necessary corrective action, and reviews/evaluates results for completeness, correctness, and consistency. They report all test results in the laboratory information system within stated turnaround times and follow appropriate backup procedures during computer downtimes. The MT is responsible for establishing and monitoring programs that ensure data accuracy and quality assurance, reviewing pending logs, and initiating and documenting troubleshooting to resolve issues. They analyze lab reports for accuracy and store specimens and related materials according to protocols. The MT is responsible for ensuring the laboratory is inspection-ready at all times.

Requirements

  • Certification with American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, allied health technologies or science.
  • Must have a degree in Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science or Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited institution in accordance with CLIA.
  • Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from the IERF (International Education Research Foundation).
  • United States educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript.
  • Experience not required.
  • Certified within six months of date of hire for MLS/MT training programs.
  • Ability to analyze test results for accuracy, acceptability and to act on critical values in a timely manner.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance on analyzers.
  • Ability to perform clinical diagnostic testing on patients samples working in a stat environment.
  • Basic computer skills required.

  • CPR preferred Issued by (Governing Body) AMT- American Medical Technologist ASCP – American Society for Clinical Pathology NCA - National Credentialing Agency.
  • Certified with in the year of date of hire for Biological Degree(s).
  • Previous experience in a hospital laboratory or clinical laboratory preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reports all test results in the laboratory information system according to laboratory policies and procedures, within stated turnaround times.
  • Establishes and monitors programs that ensure data accuracy and quality assurance.
  • Reviews pending logs and follows up to ensure pending tests are completed and/or canceled when appropriate.
  • Initiates and documents troubleshooting and problem solving to resolve issues.
  • Analyzes lab reports for accuracy.
  • Stores specimens and related materials according to protocols for location and duration.
  • Ensures the laboratory is inspection ready at all times.
