As a Medical Technologist, you will possess skills related to the daily operation of information systems used in laboratory services. You will have appropriate working knowledge of the Meditech lab system for specimen processing, ordering, resulting, inquiry functions, and troubleshooting. You will be knowledgeable of downtime procedures, both short and long term, and utilize the computer system for job-related tasks only. You will be aware of the centralized help desk notification process (i.e., email / 7777). Laboratory Organizational Skills: You will work to produce lab tests in an efficient and organized manner, effectively prioritize work, and actively adhere to the department’s STAT protocol. You will understand that ER specimens are prioritized as STAT and be skilled at assigning appropriate priority to samples received. You will know that critical and STAT results must be called and attended to immediately. You will understand the entire workflow process for your assigned work area and be skilled in multitasking without jeopardizing quality and timeliness of work. You will be focused on details related to workflow and maintain and meet established turnaround times by maintaining an organized work process. Technical Skills: You will have sufficient knowledge of QC, protocol, and procedures and bring exceptions immediately to your manager. You will assist in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and maintenance, and document corrective actions. You will present problems in a timely manner to management. You will efficiently and accurately perform assigned analytical testing using independent judgment as appropriate. You will share and demonstrate technical skills with students, technologists, and technicians. You will assist management in the evaluation of new instruments and methodologies. You will participate in continuing education, competencies, and in-services. You will perform proficiency testing. You will prepare solutions and reagents used in conducting tests. You will monitor refrigerator, freezer, and/or incubator temperatures, following up appropriately when temperatures are out of the expected range. You will appropriately and efficiently receive and process all specimens brought to the lab.
