About The Position

Gunnison Valley Hospital in Gunnison, Utah is seeking a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join their Laboratory team. Students currently enrolled in an MT/MLT program are also encouraged to apply. The Medical Technologist/Technician is responsible for performing various tests in chemical, immunohematologic, hematologic, microscopic, and bacteriologic areas to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. This role also involves assisting with preventive maintenance. For high-complexity testing, an MLT must have at least three months of documented laboratory training in each specialty and may work under the direction of the general supervisor until qualified. The position requires close collaboration with various laboratory personnel and adherence to all laboratory procedures and safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • A.A.S., B.S., or B.A. degree in medical technology or related field.
  • MT/MLT License / Certification / Registration by a National Certifying Agency
  • Student enrolled in MT/MLT program

Nice To Haves

  • For testing in high complexity the MLT must have at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.

Responsibilities

  • Performs testing in various chemical, immunohematologic, hematologic, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests to obtain data used in diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
  • Assists with preventive maintenance.
  • Performs test analysis and specimen examinations, ensuring documented competency for each area of testing.
  • Conducts specimen collection and processing, including vein puncture, skin punctures, and swab collections.
  • Manages patient reactions during procedures.
  • Ensures proper labeling and handling of specimens (storage, plasma, serum, timing).
  • Performs all tests following outlined procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Ensures proper identification and handling of specimens.
  • Adheres to Quality Control requirements for each test.
  • Maintains proper documentation of quality control and patient records.
  • Interprets tests and troubleshoots problems associated with each test.
  • Reports test results, including documentation in LIS, adhering to security and password policies.
  • Verifies results before releasing to a provider.
  • Ensures proper documentation of who performed the test.
  • Releases results to the provider.
  • Maintains records for patients, quality control, proficiency testing, and quality assurance.
  • Follows all laboratory procedures.
  • Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting.
  • Troubleshoots testing problems and follows corrective actions or notifies supervisors.
  • Documents troubleshooting steps and corrective actions.
  • Reports critical values according to policy, including verification and documentation.
  • May be required to be on call when needed.
