As a Medical Technologist, you will be responsible for the daily operation of information systems used in laboratory services, with a strong working knowledge of the Meditech lab system for specimen processing, ordering, resulting, inquiry functions, and troubleshooting. You will be knowledgeable of downtime procedures, both short and long term, and utilize the computer system for job-related tasks only. Awareness of the centralized help desk notification process is also required. In terms of laboratory organizational skills, you will work to produce lab tests efficiently and in an organized manner, effectively prioritize work, and adhere to the department’s STAT protocol, understanding that ER specimens are prioritized as STAT. You will be skilled at assigning appropriate priority to samples, know that critical and STAT results must be called and attended to immediately, and understand the entire workflow process for your assigned work area. Multitasking without jeopardizing quality and timeliness of work, focusing on details related to workflow, and maintaining established turnaround times by maintaining an organized work process are key. Technically, you will have sufficient knowledge of QC, protocol, and procedures, bringing exceptions immediately to management. You will assist in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and maintenance, documenting corrective actions and presenting problems to management in a timely manner. You will efficiently and accurately perform assigned analytical testing using independent judgment, share and demonstrate technical skills with students, technologists, and technicians, and assist management in the evaluation of new instruments and methodologies. Participation in continuing education, competencies, and in-services, performing proficiency testing, and preparing solutions and reagents are also part of the role. Monitoring refrigerator, freezer, and/or incubator temperatures and following up appropriately when temperatures are out of expected range, as well as appropriately and efficiently receiving and processing all specimens brought to the lab, are also required.
