About The Position

This position involves performing diagnostic tests in various laboratory sections including blood bank, hematology, serology, chemistry, coagulation, clinical microscopy, and bacteriology. The role requires maintaining proficiency, preparing and setting up equipment, ensuring proper calibration and maintenance, and keeping up-to-date with new developments in the field. Additionally, the position emphasizes providing excellent service to patients, visitors, and colleagues in accordance with the organization's commitment to compassion, accountability, respect, excellence, and service.

Requirements

  • For MT: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Medical/Clinical Laboratory science, Medical Technology, Biology, Microbiology, or Chemistry from an accredited institution and completion of an approved Medical Technology internship program.
  • For MT: ASCP or equivalent certification required within six (6) months of hire. HEW certification acceptable.
  • For MLT: Associate’s degree in science from an accredited institution and completion of an approved medical technician internship program.
  • For MLT: ASCP eligible.
  • Must be courteous to patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, and other employees.
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned areas of laboratory activity.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain proficiency and perform diagnostic tests in blood bank, hematology, serology, chemistry, coagulation, clinical microscopy, and bacteriology.
  • Carry out and initiate follow-up of organic and inorganic diagnostic tests.
  • Draw venous or capillary blood from inpatients and outpatients.
  • Package specimens with pertinent information and arrange for delivery to reference laboratories.
  • Prioritize requests based on need and patient condition.
  • Record and check test results.
  • Ensure prompt transmittal of accurate reports and test results to physicians and nursing units.
  • Ensure proper reporting of charges and billing information for all services.
  • Complete periodic proficiency survey tests and required reports.
  • Prepare and set up equipment for tests.
  • Assure proper calibration of equipment.
  • Perform and record daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checks of all laboratory equipment.
  • Stay informed about new developments in clinical laboratory procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Wear facility-provided identification badge at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.
