The Medical Technologist is responsible for performing laboratory testing assigned to the department. This role involves analyzing chromosomes and/or fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) data from bone marrow, blood, amniotic fluid, and tissues. The technologist must be able to recognize unusual test results, resolve discrepancies, establish work priorities, and handle multiple procedures simultaneously, including troubleshooting instruments and other issues. Maintaining knowledge of current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) is crucial, as is the ability to develop, draft, and revise SOPs, training documents, validation/verification plans, test cases, and validation/verification summaries. Excellent communication with the Department and other Laboratory Services personnel is expected.
