The Medical Technologist is responsible for performing laboratory testing assigned to the department. This role involves analyzing chromosomes and/or fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) data from various specimen types to identify chromosome abnormalities. These abnormalities assist in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment guidance for genetic diseases, including both constitutional disorders and somatic genetic alterations in cancer, primarily hematologic disease. The technologist must be able to establish work priorities, handle multiple procedures simultaneously, troubleshoot instruments and other issues, and maintain knowledge of all current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This position also involves developing, drafting, and revising SOPs, training documents, validation/verification plans, test cases, and summaries. Excellent communication with the department and other Laboratory Services personnel is essential.
