About The Position

Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states. Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing. Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits. The Medical Technologist (MT) performs a wide variety of duties in the laboratory. The MT is responsible for performing Moderate and High Complexity Testing on blood and all types of body fluid specimens, working in various areas of the Laboratory (i.e. Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology, etc.), ensuring accurate and reliable test results by adhering to instrument maintenance, calibration and quality control procedures, properly using the Laboratory Information System (LIS), maintaining records and statistical data according to regulatory requirements, coordinating with phlebotomy and other hospital staff to ensure proper collection of patient samples, troubleshooting problems with laboratory equipment, test methods, and sample collection, training new employees and students on laboratory methods, instruments, and policies, communicating patient results and/or problems to Medical or Nursing Staff, and demonstrating good customer service and communication skills. The role also requires the ability to work under pressure of emergency situations and perform other duties assigned by a Supervisor or Laboratory Director.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or Equivalent
  • 2 years Work Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree In Medical Technology or relevant medical or scientific discipline.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP BOC or equivalent, or relevant categorical certification preferred at the time of hire, however, if not certified, certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Trains new employees and students on laboratory methods, instruments, and policies
  • Ability to communicate patient results and/or problems to Medical or Nursing Staff

  • Ability to work under pressure of emergency situation
  • Other duties assigned by Supervisor or Laboratory Director
