This position is ECB status, requiring a minimum number of worked hours per month as needed by the department, with limited benefit offerings. The Medical Technologist I identifies, processes, and documents laboratory specimens for the purpose of assessing and monitoring patient status. The role involves developing and establishing procedures for collecting, processing, and analyzing biological specimens and other substances. The technologist performs and reports analytical tests, integrating and relating data from various clinical laboratory departments while making decisions regarding possible discrepancies. They confirm abnormal results, verify and execute quality control procedures, and develop solutions to problems concerning the generation of laboratory data. Additionally, the role includes establishing and performing preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment and identifying appropriate repair sources. The Medical Technologist I supports laboratory goals by demonstrating teamwork, service excellence, adhering to established guidelines and policies, and seeking process improvements. They also work with medical laboratory science students during educational laboratory activities. This position requires independent judgment in planning the sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field. The role involves direct interaction with patients, internal customers (via telephone or face-to-face), external customers (via telephone or face-to-face), and other healthcare professionals and staff. This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Use and Patient Protection Act.
