Requirements

Proficiency in performing and completing tests according to departmental procedure manuals.
Ability to handle specimens according to departmental guidelines.
Skill in recording and reporting testing data.
Competence in performing and recording quality assurance/control data, recognizing outliers, and taking corrective action.
Experience in performing and reporting proficiency tests.
Knowledge of and adherence to mandated safety policies.
Ability to perform instrument troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance.
Capability to observe reagent and supply inventories and report re-order needs.
Willingness to perform phlebotomy duties as needed.
Willingness to perform specimen triage duties as needed.
Demonstrated initiative and good decision-making skills.
Ability to accept and deliver constructive criticism positively.
Experience in interacting with and training students in the laboratory.

Responsibilities

Performs and completes all tests according to departmental procedure manuals within established turnaround times; prioritizes tasks appropriately.
Handles specimens according to departmental guidelines including unacceptable specimens and specimens for transport to reference labs.
Records and reports testing data according to department guidelines.
Performs and records required quality assurance/control data, recognizes outliers and takes corrective action as necessary.
Performs and reports proficiency tests as assigned.
Observes and abides by all mandated safety policies in performing duties.
Performs instrument troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance as required and/or assigned.
Observes reagent and supply inventories, including expiration dates and reports re-order needs to the supervisor or person responsible for supply ordering.
Performs phlebotomy duties as needed.
Performs specimen triage duties as needed.
Demonstrates initiative and makes good decisions in situations not covered by policies.
Accepts and delivers constructive criticism in a positive manner.
Interacts with and assists with training of students in the laboratory.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
