About The Position

DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL) is a regional, integrated laboratory system serving the eight hospitals of the Detroit Medical Center. Established in 1993, DMCUL includes core and specialty laboratories, rapid response hospital laboratories, centralized stat and blood bank laboratories, and a full-service outreach infrastructure. Its service area covers Southeast Michigan and is growing. The system offers a test menu of more than 1,000 tests, sends less than 1% of tests to outside reference laboratories, and provides reference laboratory services to other healthcare systems in the region and facilities out of state. Under general supervision, the Medical Technologist performs quantitative and qualitative laboratory testing on patient specimens using standard formulas and procedures. The position analyzes test results, prepares samples, calculates findings, and maintains records. It also prepares and validates solutions, reagents, media, stains, and other testing materials; processes and tests laboratory specimens; reviews and reports results; and performs operational duties, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and equipment. The technologist also serves as a resource to other laboratory personnel.
