About The Position

Under the supervision of the Medical Director of the Neurophysiology Laboratory, performs neurophysiology tests to include electroencephalograms (EEGS), evoked potential (EP) studies, and clinical video recording including video-EEG studies on adults and children. Assists physician performance of seizure induction studies, electromyograms (EMGs), and Botulinum toxin (Botox) injections. Maintains equipment, monitors inventory, and tracks laboratory output.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED certificate, is required. (Must provide proof at time of interview)
  • Prior experience as a Neurophysiology laboratory technician is required.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles, concepts, and practices associated with performing as a Medical Technologist in a hospital or health care setting
  • Knowledge of electroencephalography, electromyography, and visual, auditory, and somatosensory evoked potentials, and intraoperative evoked potential monitoring.
  • Knowledge and understanding to maintain neurophysiology laboratory equipment and address minor repairs as needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups
  • Well-developed interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrate analytical and organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking and conflict management/resolution skills
  • Computer program skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic medical record.
  • Skill to solve technical problems.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure when challenged
  • Ability to enhance learning and continue educational development
  • Ability to maintain inventory, chart lab activities, perform data storage operations.
  • Ability to meet appropriate confidentiality standards for protected health Information (PHI)
  • Ability to adhere to department policies and standards utilizing best practices incorporating the use of electronic health record (EHR)
  • The physical ability to do lifting up to 45 pounds, walk and stand for prolonged periods, use hands, legs and fingers. Demonstrates physical, mental, and muscular coordination, see and hear clearly (including with correction), tolerates exposure to unpleasant noise, odor and temperature.

Responsibilities

  • Performs electroencephalograms (EEGS) and evoked potential (EP) studies on adults and children
  • Performs clinical video recording including video-EEG studies

  • Maintains laboratory records including monthly activity reports
  • Monitors laboratory supplies and issues monthly inventory reports
  • Keeps a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment
  • Understands and follows all infection disease guidelines and protocols
  • Assists in patient registration, phone management, appointment scheduling, and physician reminders, as required
  • Assists in laboratory Quality Improvement initiatives
  • Maintains current laboratory and computer skills
