About The Position

Cornell University’s Animal Health Diagnostic Center seeks a Diagnostic Technologist to support the Endocrinology Laboratory’s high-volume veterinary diagnostic and research testing services. This position performs a broad range of routine to moderately complex endocrine testing using immunoassay technologies while ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality results. The successful candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable troubleshooting laboratory processes and managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on laboratory work and collaborating with technologists, laboratory management, veterinarians, and other stakeholders to support animal and public health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline with up to two years of laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and self-management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands, meet deadlines, and work accurately and efficiently.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships, work independently and as part of a team, and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, including the ability to maintain detailed records and perform laboratory procedures with precision and efficiency.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn advanced functions and new software and systems.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including but not limited to pushing, pulling, lifting, or carrying up to 20 pounds and sitting or standing for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using radioactive materials and automated laboratory equipment/analyzers to perform Endocrinology testing.
  • Research experience focused in human or veterinary physiology or endocrinology.
  • Knowledge and understanding of veterinary diagnostic endocrinology.
  • Working knowledge of immunoassay theory and practical understanding in the use of assay validation criteria
  • Experience working within an organization with an established Quality Assurance Program.
  • Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic testing: Conduct routine to moderately complex Endocrinology testing using RIA, EIA, CIA, and related laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Process and manage specimens: Evaluate incoming specimens and test requests, perform accessioning and specimen preparation, and identify and resolve issues related to sample quality or test requirements.
  • Maintain quality and accuracy: Perform quality control testing, monitor assay and instrument performance, troubleshoot issues, and maintain accurate records in accordance with laboratory quality systems and procedures.
  • Support laboratory operations: Assist with laboratory organization, inventory, equipment maintenance, training, LIMS activities, and other operational needs while maintaining required safety and regulatory standards.
