As a Medical Technologist, you will manage infectious specimens, hazardous chemicals, and potentially dangerous instruments in accordance with hospital and departmental policies to maintain a safe working environment. You will perform a variety of highly complex, technically demanding clinical assays on infectious specimens. You will interpret the validity of assay results using professional judgment based on knowledge of physiological systems and principles of instrumentation and quality assurance. You will document and communicate results of these analyses, facilitating appropriate diagnosis and treatment of patients. You will maintain thorough knowledge of all assays, reagent systems, and instrumentation to assist technologists when problems occur. You will continuously strengthen knowledge of laboratory principles and techniques through participation in continuing education activities. You will communicate and interpret laboratory results, procedures, and policies to physicians and health care providers. You will evaluate recent technological advances and new procedures for possible laboratory implementation. You will provide interpretation of results and parameters when necessary. You will oversee and maintain a continuous workflow in the laboratory. You will assign work to laboratory staff and prepare the work schedule. You will conduct continuing education programs. You will instruct and train staff and Medical Technology students. You will demonstrate financial accountability through accurate documentation of workload and efficient use of reagents and supplies.
