Responsibilities

  • Communicates at shift change and follows through completing pending assignments from previous shift.
  • Performs and documents Quality Control, taking appropriate corrective action when variances occur.
  • Organizes work to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Determines specimen acceptability and take action accordingly.
  • Determines specimen priority and take action accordingly.
  • Maintains minimum inventory of reagents to ensure continuous workflow and sufficient supplies for the oncoming shift
  • Recognize when equipment failure occurs, inform the supervisor/charge tech and take corrective action to minimize delays in patient testing.
  • Addresses instrument flags prior to release of patient results.
  • Calls and documents critical values.
  • Reviews work lists throughout the shift and addresses pending items.
  • Cleans and decontaminates workstation, disposing of specimens, reagents, and confidential information as appropriate.
  • Teach and train staff or students as assigned.
  • Demonstrate willingness to perform other duties (cover the accessioning workstation when the need arises, answer the phone, etc.) when needed.
