About The Position

Athena Care is seeking a Floating Medical Technician for their Nashville and surrounding clinics. This role provides clinical support and patient observation for individuals receiving interventional psychiatry treatments and also serves as a dedicated phone line support technician. The position is responsible for monitoring and responding to patient inquiries, coordinating pharmacy and authorization needs, assisting with clinical treatment support, and ensuring accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). This position floats between middle Tennessee office locations as needed and supports operational continuity through coverage of both in-clinic and phone line functions. The schedule is Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years or more previous healthcare experience preferred.
  • Prior phlebotomy experience required.
  • Current Medical Assistant or phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
  • Must have valid driver's license, personal automobile insurance of at least the state required minimums, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Knowledge of medications, standard medical procedures, and HIPAA compliance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (specifically Outlook, Teams, and Excel) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor phone lines, voicemails, messages, and faxes for patient inquiries and pharmacy needs.
  • Respond to patient communications quickly and efficiently while providing excellent customer service.
  • Delegate clinical concerns to medical providers appropriately and provide requested information to patients and pharmacies.
  • Assist with scheduling patient appointments when needed.
  • Support prior authorizations and pharmacy coordination while remaining available on the phone lines as assigned.
  • Assist with interventional treatments as directed and in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Order and maintain inventory of controlled substances in compliance with DEA and FDA guidelines.
  • Effectively and accurately perform laboratory procedures including completion of drug screens, venipuncture draw, vital signs, and/or other specialty tests.
  • Monitor messages, call lines, and faxes for patient inquiries, delegating information appropriately to medical providers for guidance and providing requested information to patient pharmacies.
  • Respond to patient communications quickly and efficiently.
  • Appropriately engage with and support patients based on therapeutic best practices.
  • Appropriately and accurately document in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • As needed, schedule patient appointments.
  • Identify and resolve work problems to ensure quality patient service.
  • Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures, including maintaining patient confidentiality, as well as compliance with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, etc).
  • Communicate effectively within the organization providing regular updates to providers, supervisors and peers about current and completed tasks.
  • Provide coverage for other work areas when needed.
