About The Position

The Medical Support Staff is a key associate at Hope Network whose primary responsibilities include assisting the Nurse/Physician in the operation of the program. This includes monitoring the operation of medication administration and direct client health care of program consumers and assessment of medical needs.

Requirements

  • 2 years working in a medical setting completing similar duties and/or, high school diploma or equivalent or Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • Ability to interact with workforce members and persons served of diverse populations required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in both written and verbal formats to meet position responsibilities.
  • Ability to perform non-physical and physical interventions with clients in accordance with CMH guidelines and Behavioral Management plans in order to protect the client, other clients and self. This requires the physical ability to appropriately restrain a client with or without assistance from co-workers.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, required.
  • Understand basic record keeping principles.
  • Ability to compose routine correspondence from brief instructions.
  • Ability to use initiative and sound independent judgment within established guidelines.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Ability to articulate and actively support the mission of the corporation to various audiences.
  • For non-residential settings; experience working in medical office providing similar duties.
  • Current driver's license with acceptable driving record according to Hope Network corporate policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
  • For Residential settings; At least one year of experience working in a residential setting, preferred.
  • For Residential settings; At least one year of experience handling and administering medications, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and implements infection control procedures and other quality assurance procedures to protect persons served, workforce members, and their associates.
  • Document physical assessments, laboratory results/needs, and progress in treatment within the specified electronic medical record keeping system as directed by licensed medical workforce member.
  • Receiving patients and natural supports; screens phone calls; takes messages or makes appropriate referrals; provides factual information regarding the County or specific health unit activities and services which may require the interpretation of rules, policies and/or procedures when needed.
  • Obtaining and documenting vitals for all in-coming persons served. Ensuring vitals are taken prior to appointments with prescribing staff.
  • Organizes patient charts for daily appointment schedule preparation and varied recordkeeping activities; may pull and file charts located within assigned area; reviews charts for necessary documentation and receive diagnostic test authorizations from healthcare workforce members; closes patient charts as authorized.
  • Provides for intake and registration of patients; interviews patients to obtain medical information and appropriate documentation required to open patient charts.
  • Informs professional workforce members of lab, medication/injections as needed and diagnostic test results in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Transcribes patient information presenting problem, histories, physical examination notes and related patient medical information containing specialized medical terminology; types various correspondence and documentation pertaining to patient diagnosis and treatment from drafts, dictated tapes or notes into the electronic medical record keeping system (EMR) as determined by the prescribing agent.
  • May perform routine billing, preparation of medical procedure or test orders, and a variety of patient processing, documentation and recordkeeping duties, depending upon assignment.
  • Review of documentation with the prescriber as needed to ensure that quality standards are optimal.
  • Provide consumer education and support documents when directed by the prescribing professional.
  • Ensuring all necessary consents are completed prior to the patient leaving the clinic (Consent for Medication, Consent for Treatment, Assignment of Benefits, etc..)
  • Assist with the obtainment of medications through prior authorizations, coordination with pharmacies, nurses and/or drug manufacturers as needed.
  • Coordinate with the prescriber to reviews all documentation completed via transcribing when the patient encounter has concluded. Make needed corrections to the medical record as outlined by the prescriber/licensed medical workforce member.
  • Assist nursing workforce member as directed to ensure consumer care.
  • In programs that maintain medications, complete daily medication reconciliation.
  • Perform detailed medical office support work accurately.
  • Prioritize work and coordinate several activities.
  • Organize and maintain accurate patient and general files and records.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
  • Assist with front end operations, as needed.
  • In programs that maintain and administer medication, Medical Staff Support working at Hope Network will complete daily medication reconciliation.
  • Medical Staff Support working at an Integrated Care Program may be required to work as a direct care worker within the program.
  • Medical Staff Support working at a Crisis Residential Program will be responsible for coordination of care as assigned by the program RN including but not limited to pharmacies, emergency departments, primary care physicians, inpatient hospitals, etc.
