About The Position

This role is at a BioLife Plasma Services center, a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) will support plasma center operations by determining donor eligibility, managing adverse events, reviewing lab results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. The role operates under the guidance of the Center Manager for operations and the Center Physician for medical issues, requiring familiarity with plasma collection industry regulations. The position also supports environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Currently licensed or certified as an EMT-Paramedic in the state where responsibilities will be assigned.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history review, physical examination, blood testing, and SPE review.
  • Evaluate donor reactions and manage medical emergencies according to SOPs, including physician's standing orders and transport to emergency facilities.
  • Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on medical or technical issues, donor safety, and eligibility.
  • Support employee Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine the need for further evaluation by occupational health/ER, referring to EHS guidance.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.
