About The Position

The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) will be responsible for scheduling and managing outpatient appointments, conducting pre- and post-appointment patient contacts, processing and tracking community care referrals/consults, and verifying/updating patient demographic information. This role involves entering and managing patient information in VA systems such as CPRS and VistA, answering and routing incoming calls, and responding to patient and staff inquiries. The MSA will also coordinate community care services when VA care is unavailable or cannot be provided timely, provide customer service to Veterans, families, VA staff, and healthcare providers, and use Microsoft Office applications and VA scheduling/clinical systems daily. Additionally, they will escalate system or workflow issues to the Lead MSA or supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 6 months of customer service experience
  • Typing speed of at least 50 WPM
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Basic computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • U.S. residency required
  • Must be able to complete VA background screening, fingerprinting, and PIV credentialing

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ year of scheduling experience in a doctor's office, clinic, hospital, or other healthcare setting
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience
  • Experience answering, screening, and routing phone calls
