About The Position

This is a Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation) GS-0679-05 position located at Camp Lejeune Naval Medical Center in North Carolina. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD. Duties include entering, manipulating, and retrieving information from automated systems, completing request forms, scheduling patient appointments, receiving patients and visitors, monitoring messaging systems, providing information on clinic policies, and maintaining patient records. The role also involves performing Quality Assurance monitoring of patient records.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Immunization screening is required.
  • Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.
  • Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

  • One year of specialized experience which includes performing clerical or administrative support in a medical clinic, including greeting patients, managing phone and secure messaging systems, scheduling and coordinating appointments, maintaining electronic and paper medical records, preparing routine correspondence and reports, and supporting patient in- and out-processing.
  • Qualified typist: Can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Responsibilities

  • Enter, manipulate and/or retrieve information and data from automated systems as appropriate to the area assigned.
  • Complete request forms, manually or automated, for individual patient orders, blood work and other requests.
  • Schedule appropriate patient appointments.
  • Receive patients and visitors as the initial point of contact, in person or telephonically.
  • Monitor and manage the messaging system at the clinic/practice level.
  • Provide information regarding the practice, clinic, and hospital policies, procedures, and locations to patients, family members, staff, etc.
  • Maintain all patients' records, both electronic and paper, according to regulation ensuring each entry contains proper patient and health care provider identification.
  • Perform Quality Assurance monitoring, using appropriate tools regarding the completion and contents of the patients’ record.
