About The Position

The Medical Screener - Reception Technician is responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting registration procedures to verify donor suitability for the plasma pheresis process. This role involves assisting qualified donors with the screening process in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The screening includes assessing health history, answering medical questions, referring donors to medical staff, and performing health screening tests such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature. The technician also performs finger sticks to obtain samples for hematocrit and total protein levels. Upon training, this role may involve educating new donors about therapeutic products, the screening process, health tests, appointment systems, donation fees, center policies, and nutrition. The technician ensures all donor questions are answered accurately and professionally. Additional duties may include registering applicant and transfer donors, answering telephones, and alerting supervisors to donor flow issues. Accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system is crucial. The role also requires maintaining a clean work environment, ensuring sufficient supplies, and adhering to Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and OSHA policies. Confidentiality of all information is paramount. Bilingual skills may be required, and other job-related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of three (3) months experience in a clerical or customer service related position, preferably in medical or health provider environment or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be able to perform basic math calculations

Responsibilities

  • Greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting registration procedures to verify donor suitability for the plasma pheresis process.
  • Assisting qualified donors in completing the screening process in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Assessing self-administered health history, answering basic medical questions associated with the donation process, and referring donors to medical staff when appropriate.
  • Performing health screening procedures such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature.
  • Performing finger stick to obtain sample to obtain donor’s hematocrit and total protein levels.
  • Educating new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma, explaining the screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition and any other information pertinent to the donor.
  • Ensuring that all donor questions are answered timely, accurately and professionally.
  • Registering applicant and transfer donors based upon completion of appropriate training and operational needs of the center.
  • Answering the telephone and answering callers question or transfer call to appropriate staff member.
  • Maintaining alertness and awareness to any reaction by a donor may have during or after the pheresis process and notifying appropriate staff.
  • Alerting Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
  • Ensuring the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the SOPs.
  • Understanding the policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center if applicable.
  • Maintaining clean efficient work environment and ensuring sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed.
  • Following all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures.
  • Promoting safety in all actions.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all personnel, donor and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
