About The Position

The Medical Screener - Reception Technician is responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting registration procedures to verify donor suitability for the plasma pheresis process. This role involves assisting qualified donors through the screening process in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), which includes assessing health history, answering medical questions, referring donors to medical staff when necessary, and performing health screening procedures like taking blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature. The technician also performs finger sticks to obtain samples for hematocrit and total protein levels. Upon completion of training, they may educate new donors on therapeutic products, the screening process, health tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, and nutrition, ensuring all donor questions are answered accurately and professionally. The role may also involve registering donors, answering telephones, monitoring donors for reactions, recording donor data in the electronic system, and maintaining a clean work environment. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) may be required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three (3) months experience in a clerical or customer service related position, preferably in a medical or health provider environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to perform basic math calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting donors and conducting registration procedures to verify suitability for the plasma pheresis process.
  • Assisting qualified donors in completing the screening process in compliance with SOPs.
  • Assessing self-administered health history and answering basic medical questions.
  • Referring donors to medical staff when appropriate.
  • Performing health screening procedures such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature.
  • Performing finger sticks to obtain samples for hematocrit and total protein levels.
  • Educating new donors on therapeutic products, the screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, and nutrition (upon training completion).
  • Answering donor questions accurately, timely, and professionally.
  • Registering applicant and transfer donors (upon training completion and based on operational needs).
  • Answering the telephone, answering caller questions, or transferring calls to appropriate staff.
  • Maintaining alertness to any donor reactions during or after the pheresis process and notifying appropriate staff.
  • Alerting Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
  • Ensuring accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system.
  • Understanding policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs (if applicable).
  • Maintaining a clean and efficient work environment and ensuring sufficient supplies and forms are available.
  • Following all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures.
  • Promoting safety in all actions.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
