About The Position

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is seeking an MRC Coordinator for the Chesterfield Health District. This role provides program oversight, recruits volunteers, and determines appropriate service roles for volunteers in planned events. The coordinator will manage volunteer Return on Investment (ROI) metrics, ensure compliance with ASPR and CDC reporting requirements, and implement recruitment strategies to expand and diversify the volunteer workforce. The position also involves developing educational programs for community disaster readiness, supporting the Local Healthcare Emergency Coordination (LHEC) program through Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) initiatives, and coordinating training opportunities with various partners. The MRC Coordinator will collaborate with district departments to identify volunteer engagement opportunities, assist with social media management and communication efforts in partnership with the Public Information Officer (PIO), and develop/maintain redundant communication systems for volunteers. The position may also be deployed during public health emergencies. This is a restricted position with funding scheduled for annual renewal, contingent on continued grant or non-general funds.

Requirements

  • Experience in coordinating and managing volunteers and community services
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation/public speaking skills
  • Experience and ability to provide training to others
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a diverse constituency
  • Knowledge and experience in use of computers and computer applications; skilled in Internet, email and Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Manage and report volunteer Return on Investment (ROI) metrics on a quarterly and annual basis.
  • Ensure compliance with all ASPR and CDC reporting requirements.
  • Implement recruitment strategies to expand and diversify the volunteer workforce.
  • Work collaboratively across the region to support regional MRC initiatives and partnerships.
  • Develop and expand educational programs that enhance community disaster readiness.
  • Support the Local Healthcare Emergency Coordination (LHEC) program through the development and management of Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) initiatives.
  • Coordinate training opportunities through governmental and non-governmental partners.
  • Facilitate in-house and partner-led trainings for volunteers and community members.
  • Collaborate with all district departments to identify opportunities for volunteer engagement and support.
  • Assist with managing social media platforms, maintaining online and written content, and contributing to communication and outreach efforts.
  • Develop and maintain redundant communication systems to ensure active volunteers can be reached during emergencies.
  • Annually review and update the district's MRC Handbook and supporting training materials.
  • May be deployed during public health emergencies to provide leadership, coordination, and support for MRC volunteers engaged in emergency response and recovery activities.
